Who wrote the Bible

The modern world we live in has huge political and economical influences yet we tend to forget that this was just as true not only during the times that the Bible was written about but also the time the the written translations were developed.
There are different versions of the Bible that were developed by separate groups and there was certainly a lot of political and economic pressure to ensure that the doctrine followed was "accepted'. Along with this is the human error and interpretation of translating languages that often cause emphasis to be placed where it was not intended.
all this combines to allow an element of doubt as to the accuracy of passages and I suggest that those with a dogmatic approach to the scrips may need to take a step back and reflect.
During one debate with a passionate believer I asked 'Don't you think you are being narrow minded?" a little taken aback, he replied " Oh! Yes. But I am right!" :D - Ross

Leviticus

Mark,
I would agree that procreation isn't the only concern of Leviticus. There's lots going on there--keeping boundaries around the community, looking at creation as ordered according to a complex taxomony, gender, etc.
How do you see Leviticus?

taboos

Hm, I tried to post a comment but couldn't get past your security. Maybe I forgot to check Terms of Usage.

Good post, but I suspect the motives behind the various sexual taboos in the book of Leviticus were more complex than any conscious concern to increase family size. - Mark
